United Ways of Cayuga and Seneca Counties Launch Community Indicators Website

The United Ways of Cayuga County, led by Tim Kelly, and Seneca County, led by Karen Beals have unveiled a new web site with 70 community indicators. Their collaborative effort is part of the ongoing Seneca County Partners for Children, Youth and Family and the United Way of Cayuga County’s work on children and family issues. The Center for Governmental Research of CGR developed the site for the United Ways and their partners.

The Governor is also issuing a number of press releases around the state from county and business leaders, Which support his proposal for mandate relief and changes to the state’s pension plans for future state employees. State Education Department and NYSUT Budget Testimony

Yesterday (Jan 23) State Education Department Commissioner Dr. John B. King, Jr. testified before the Joint Legislative Budget Committees on the Governor’s proposed budget. The testimony, titled “College and Career Readiness” focuses on the Regents proposal for education funding to the Governor. Click here to read Dr. King’s testimony.

Andrew Pallotta, Executive Vice President of NYSUT, also testified at yesterday’s hearings, addressing school aid, the impact of the tax cap on education resources, preschool special education and a host of other topics. Click here to read the NYSUT testimony.

United Way of Columbia-Greene Coordinating Disaster Relief

An article and photo in the Catskill Daily Mail describes the work of Brad Poster, the Executive Director of the United Way of Columbia and Greene Counties, and his community partners in addressing the unmet needs of families affected by the hurricane and tropical storm flooding. The article also mentions the gran from the Hurricane Irene Recovery Fund, managed by United Way of New York State.

Cuomo’s new New York Train Skips Some Stops

$93 Million Additional Federal Funding for Disaster Relief

Governor Cuomo has announced $93 million in federal funding for disaster relief and recovery efforts. The aid will be available to reimburse costs in those communities which received a disaster declaration. Click here to read the press release about how this aid will be used.
