Senate NFP Compensation Hearing Report Published

Senator Carl Marcellino’s report on the Not for Profit Executive Compensation hearing  held in February has been issued.

UWNYS, in conjunction with four other human services groups, submitted written testimony to the Senator and met with him afterwards.

United Way of Greater Rochester Announces Lower Campaign Goal

Citing the recent Kodak Chapter 11 bankruptcy and other local economic downsizing, Peter Carpino, President of the United Way of Greater Rochester today announced their campaign goal of $25.5 million , which is $2.5 million less than last year’s goal.

Not for Profit Contracting Advisory Committee Meets Today

A state advisory committee created in legislation United Ways strongly supported will have its first quarterly meeting for the year today (Feb 24) in Albany. UWNYS was appointed to serve on this committee.

The agenda includes issues of concern to United Ways and their funded programs including: guidelines for the Governor’s Executive Order on not for profit executive compensation; plans for revamping the state’s contracting, payment and reporting systems and processes; and the latest from the State Comptroller on training for state agencies and not for profits.

Early State Budget Possible – One House Bills Expected March 12

Rick Karlin, writing in the Times-Union today, has a story forecasting the possibility of state budget approval a week earlier than the April 1 deadline.

To meet this goal, the one house budget bills for the Assembly and Senate are expected by March 12, followed by conference committees and negotiations with the Executive.

Late State Payment Interest Penalties Cost Taxpayers

Reporter Beth Wurtman from WNYT-TV (NBC – Channel 13) in Albany ran a story  on $1.4 million in interest penalty payments and over $2.7 million paid by state agencies to vendors that were paid late in the past two years. She also explores the impact of these delays on the affected not for profits, in this case health care clinics and institutions.
